Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C-Schoharie) recently celebrated Ed Biittig's remarkable achievement of 50 years of sobriety and dedication to serving others. The event took place in the Assembly Chamber on Wednesday, Feb. 14, where Biittig was presented with a proclamation and received heartfelt recognition from legislators, staff, and visitors.

Ed Biittig's journey towards sobriety began at a young age, with struggles with alcoholism starting at just 13 years old. Despite facing challenges, including multiple car accidents and a DUI arrest in 1974, Biittig chose the path of rehabilitation at St. Peter’s Hospital, transforming his life over eight challenging weeks.

Following his recovery, Biittig committed himself to giving back to the community, volunteering with various programs and facilities to share his story and support others in similar situations. His work as a journalist, particularly focusing on northeast dirt-modified racing, played a significant role in his journey to maintaining sobriety.

Assemblyman Tague expressed his admiration for Biittig's resilience and dedication, stating, "Ed has been through so much and yet his devotion to helping others has never wavered." Tague highlighted the importance of recognizing individuals like Biittig for their contributions to the community, emphasizing the honor it was to present Biittig with a well-deserved recognition from the New York State Assembly.

Biittig's story serves as an inspiration to many, showcasing the transformative power of perseverance, dedication, and service to others in overcoming personal challenges and making a positive impact on the community.
